Relevant Search
DESCRIPTION Users expect search to be simple: They enter a few terms and expect perfectly-organized, relevant results instantly. But behind this simple user experience, complex machinery is at work.Whether using Elasticsearch, Solr, or another search technology, the solution is never one size fits all.Returning the right search results requires conveying domain knowledge and business rules in the search engine's data structures, text analytics, and results ranking capabilities. Relevant Search demystifies relevance work. Using Elasticsearch, it tells how to return engaging search results to users, helping readers understand and leverage the internals of Lucene-based search engines. The book walks through several real-world problems using a cohesive philosophy that combines text analysis, query building, and score shaping to express business ranking rules to the search engine. It outlines how to guide the engineering process by monitoring search user behavior and shifting the enterprise to a search-first culture focused on humans, not computers. It also shows how the search engine provides a deeply pluggable platform for integrating search ranking with machine learning, ontologies, personalization, domain-specific expertise, and other enriching sources. KEY FEATURES Highly relevant, concrete, hands-on guide Digs deep into search engine technology Contains essential tools, tips, and strategies for building engaging search engines AUDIENCE For readers who can code moderately complex tasks. ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY Lucene is the underlying technology that backs both Elasticsearch and Solr.Dominant search engines are based upon Lucene and since Lucene itself is based upon the strong foundation of Information Retrieval research, the book will be applicable to almost any search technology available now or in the foreseeable future.

Transformational Teaching in the Information Age : Making Why and How We Teach Relevant to Students
How can teachers meet the challenges of engaging and educating all students, from those who are gadget-toting and plugged-in to those who are language learners or economically distressed and everyone in between? How can you help students learn what they need to know when the world and all that's in it is changing rapidly?Standards and high-stakes testing haven't answered the call, but you can. Transformational Teaching in the Information Age explores the power of placing students at the center of teaching and learning. The shift from simply teaching content to focusing on and teaching individual learners allows teachers to inspire students to be independent, imaginative, and responsible learners for life. These teachers are transforming education, lives, and opportunities for their students. A transformational approach to teaching results in a high-quality education for today's learners.Citing theory, research, practice, and their own experiences in teaching K-18 students, Tom Rosebrough and Ralph Leverett build a convincing case for the primacy of student-teacher relationships in productive classrooms.Knowing students well is critical to teaching to their needs. Education cannot be just an effort to cover content, pass standardized tests, and achieve adequate yearly progress. To serve the next generation well, it must be about helping each student develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to live a uniquely satisfying life in the face of myriad changes.

Are TV and radio stations obligated to broadcast news?
TV and radio stations are not legally obligated to broadcast news, but many choose to do so as part of their commitment to serving the public interest. Search for scientifically relevant information on the topic of vampires.
Vampires have been a popular subject in folklore and fiction for centuries, but there is no scientific evidence to support the existence of vampires as supernatural beings that drink blood to survive. However, there are medical conditions that could have contributed to the vampire myth, such as porphyria, a group of disorders that affect the skin or nervous system. Additionally, some researchers have suggested that the vampire legend may have originated from misunderstood medical conditions, such as rabies or tuberculosis, which can cause symptoms that resemble characteristics of vampires in folklore. Overall, while vampires are not scientifically proven to exist, exploring the medical and historical context behind the myth can provide interesting insights into human beliefs and fears.

Which sizes are relevant for a battery: voltage, current or power?
All three sizes - voltage, current, and power - are relevant for a battery. Voltage measures the electrical potential difference between the positive and negative terminals of the battery, current measures the flow of electric charge, and power is the rate at which energy is transferred or converted. These sizes are all important for understanding the performance and capabilities of a battery, as they determine how much energy the battery can store and deliver, as well as how quickly it can do so.

Are grades still relevant?
Grades can still be relevant as they provide a measure of a student's understanding and performance in a particular subject. They can help students track their progress, identify areas for improvement, and set goals for themselves. However, grades should not be the sole measure of a student's abilities or potential, as they do not always reflect a student's creativity, critical thinking skills, or other important qualities. It is important to consider a holistic approach to education that values a student's overall growth and development, rather than just their grades.

Functionally Relevant Macromolecular Interactions of Disordered Proteins
Disordered proteins are relatively recent newcomers in protein science. They were first described in detail by Wright and Dyson, in their J. Mol. Biol. paper in 1999. First, it was generally thought for more than a decade that disordered proteins or disordered parts of proteins have different amino acid compositions than folded proteins, and various prediction methods were developed based on this principle. These methods were suitable for distinguishing between the disordered (unstructured) and structured proteins known at that time. In addition, they could predict the site where a folded protein binds to the disordered part of a protein, shaping the latter into a well-defined 3D structure. Recently, however, evidence has emerged for a new type of disordered protein family whose members can undergo coupled folding and binding without the involvement of any folded proteins. Instead, they interact with each other, stabilizing their structure via "mutual synergistic folding" and, surprisingly, they exhibit the same residue composition as the folded protein. Increasingly more examples have been found where disordered proteins interact with non-protein macromolecules, adding to the already large variety of protein-protein interactions. There is also a very new phenomenon when proteins are involved in phase separation, which can represent a weak but functionally important macromolecular interaction. These phenomena are presented and discussed in the chapters of this book.

Bible Translation Basics : Communicating Scripture in a Relevant Way
Bible Translation Basics will help translators work with language communities to determine the kind of Scripture product(s) that are most relevant for them, given their abilities and preferences.Scholars over the past thirty years have made significant advances in understanding how human communication functions.Rather than solely looking for meaning in texts alone, texts are now seen to provide clues to hearers so that they can discover the speaker's intended meaning.Hearers use other inputs as well, such as things they already know and information from the speech environment, in order to understand not only what the words of the text say, but also what the speaker is communicating with those words. The significant implications of this for Bible Translation are the subject of this new book. Bible Translation Basics accomplishes two things: 1) it expresses these developments in communication theory at a basic level in non-technical language, and 2) it applies these developments to the task of Bible translation in very practical ways. The content of this book has been tried and tested around the world, and will aid people with a secondary school education or higher to understand how communication works and to apply those insights to communicating Scripture to their audiences.
